Cowboys, Cornfields & Country Music: A Nashville-Themed Birthday in Newport, Wales

There are some gigs that just have something about them, and this was definitely one of them.

Picture a beautiful sunny day in the heart of Wales, surrounded by golden cornfields, hay bales, cowboys, cowgirls and a whole lot of country music. Add incredible food, an ice cream van, a fantastic crowd and a double birthday celebration, and you have all the ingredients for one seriously memorable summer party!

We were delighted to be asked to perform at this fantastic outdoor festival-style birthday celebration in Ponthir, Newport, Wales, bringing together a very special 50th and 21st birthday.

And what a setting it was.

Country Festival Vibes in the Welsh Countryside

From the moment we arrived, the whole event had that unmistakable festival feeling.

The beautiful outdoor setting was surrounded by cornfields and hay bales, with guests embracing the country theme in true cowboy and cowgirl style. The sun was shining, the skies were blue and Wales was showing off with a spectacularly warm July day.

It honestly felt more like we had been transported to a country festival somewhere in Nashville than performing at a birthday party in Newport, Wales!

And, of course, no summer celebration is complete without amazing food. The guests were treated to a fantastic spread, and when the July sunshine really started to turn up the heat, they even had their very own ice cream van to keep everyone cool.

A Party Full of Country Music Lovers

One of the best things about performing at events like this is meeting people who genuinely love the music.

We were surrounded by country music fans throughout the day and met some amazing people, including Nathan, the birthday boy celebrating his 50th.

It turns out Nathan is a pretty serious country music fan himself!

He told us all about his recent trip to Nashville, where he had been lucky enough to see one of our favourite bands, The Zac Brown Band, perform live. And if that wasn't enough, he was heading off the following weekend to see Luke Combs at Wembley.

Now that's a country music fan!

There was even a little connection to Wembley on our side too, our very own drummer has performed at Wembley! But we'll save that story for another time...

A Special Luke Combs Request

Nathan had also made a special request for us to perform “Whoever You Turn Out to Be” by Luke Combs.

Before the party got fully underway, we managed to find a rather unusual rehearsal space, the pool room!

We had a quick acoustic practice of the song before heading outside to get the party started.

There's something rather special about hearing a song stripped back and acoustic before playing it live to a crowd, and it was a lovely moment before the celebrations began.

Live Music, Great People & Festival Atmosphere

Once the music started, the party really came alive.

With the sunshine overhead, guests enjoying the food and drinks, and everyone soaking up the country festival atmosphere, it was exactly the kind of summer gig we love.

There was dancing, singing, plenty of smiles and that wonderfully relaxed family atmosphere that makes an event feel genuinely special.

And that's what we'll remember most, not just the fantastic setting, but the people.

We met some wonderful guests, enjoyed some great conversations and felt incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived.

One of Our Favourite Country Gigs

It's safe to say this has become one of our favourite country gigs we've played so far.

A beautiful sunny July day in Wales, a spectacular outdoor setting, cornfields and hay bales, cowboys and cowgirls, festival vibes, live country music, amazing food, an ice cream van and, most importantly, a fantastic group of people who knew how to enjoy themselves.

What more could you want?
